Olympic Weight Lifting
We al know the general concept of weight lifting. Olympic weight lifting is something totally different from power-lifting or any other sport specific training. Where other weight training sports entail performances of the dead-lift or the use of free weights, Olympic weight lifting consists of only two lifts. The Snatch is an overhead lift. This means that the barbell is lifted from the floor to overhead in one motion. The Clean and Jerk means that the barbell is lifted from the floor in two stages. Stage one is the Clean and it is the lift of the barbell from the floor to the shoulders. Stage two is an overhead lift in a split of lunge position.
Using Olympic weight lifting as part of your training program can contribute to great physical development. Olympic weight lifting – experts says that the benefits gained from this exercise are by far more beneficial than any other weight training sport. It strengthens your back and you will have muscle development in your upper body and upper back.
Olympic weight lifting – techniques are usedas extensive training in other sports such as Rugby and American Football because it utilizes the body’s major muscle groups and are contributory to functional strength.
Olympic weight lifting – training is far more specialized than normal weight training programs. Training consists of lifts by using weights, but movements are controlled and may not be jerking or bouncing.
Olympic weight lifting is judged by three judges and a successful lift is indicated by two out of three white lights. Disapproval of a lift is indicated by a red light. A successful lift is if a competitor lift the bar to at least knee level within sixty seconds of the bar being loaded. In the instance where two consecutive lifts are made, the competitor is given hundred and twenty seconds for the second lift.
Olympic weight lifting consists of eight divisions which are determined by body mass. In every weight division competitors do both lifts. This is spectacular sport to watch and to enjoy it one must know what to look for. As is the case with all else, practice makes perfect, so you will have to attend the actual events in order to see what you should be looking for.
