Physical Fitness
One of the basic challenges of every fitness program is to get people interested, keen and keep them coming back for more. The exercises need to be within the participants capabilities and yet to give enough of a challenge that they feel that their fitness is being improved. They need to feel that they are gaining some benefits and will be seeing and feeling some results soon. The internet has millions of articles on physical fitness all explaining why this way or that way is superior but the bottom line is that they need to be fun, simple to learn and effective.
In many cases it is the personality of the training instructor that makes the classes fun and enjoyable and keeps members upbeat and eager to return. The classes need to be fast paced, energising and differ slightly each time. They should be designed in such a way as to provide a challenge to any level of fitness and yet can be completed by anyone with a reasonable level of health. It is also important that the instructor should have some credentials behind them that qualify them to lead such a class and be able to talk with authority in articles on physical fitness.
The sessions must also be timed to fit into peoples’ schedules and be completed in about half an hour. Most people want to see an improvement in their strength, flexibility and endurance without spending hours sweating over boring old gym routines with no interaction with any one else. In any article on physical fitness one reads the need for innovation is emphasised. In addition individual needs and physical capabilities need to be taken into consideration when compiling the classes.
Health problems such as obesity and lack of fitness have reached epidemic proportions in many first world countries. This alarming increase in the tendency of people to overeat, impacts on other aspects of a nation’s health. Over the last ten years the incidence of type two diabetes diagnosed in the US has increased by forty nine percent! This is covered in many articles on physical fitness and the increase shown in children is even more alarming and extremely troubling when one considers the impact of this obesity in years to come.
Everyone both young and old should be doing some form of physical activity every day – activities that speed up the heart rate and increase strength and flexibility. Regular physical activity not only benefits one body but also relieves stress and tension, relaxes one, improves sleep and reduces the risk of heart disease.
