Weight Lifting Equipment
Weight lifting equipment is necessary for one to attempt weight lifting exercises. Weightlifting is often referred to as weight training, where weights are used to build muscles, and thus strength. There are a number of different weight lifting equipment which must be understood, before one attempts weightlifting.
There are a number of basic pieces of weight training equipment. The first one is the barbell, which can be described as a steel bar of about 5 to 7 feet in length. The bar is about 1 inch thick, and has an engraving found on the bar. This engraving is to assist weight lifters in gaining a good grip, and thus not injure themselves.
The barbell or weight lifting equipment, has cast iron discs that slide onto the ends of the steel bar. This will allow a weight lifter to increase or decrease the weight – giving them the desired weight they wish to lift. The weight lifting equipment is then secured on the ends by collars. These prevent the discs from sliding off the ends and causing the weight lifter an injury.
The dumbbell is another piece of weight lifting equipment It forms part of the free weights category, where the dumbbell is held in one hand. It is then possible to use two dumbbells – one in each hand. Therefore dumbbells are sold in pairs. It was only in the early 19 th century, that dumbbells took on the shape that is familiar to us today.
Another item of weight lifting equipment, is the kettlebell. This looks like a cannonball that has a handle. Kettlebells were originally used in Russia by strongmen. The kettlebell has been revived in the last few decades and now is a popular form of exercise, with many programs available.
Weight lifting equipment is used by weight lifters in training. Dumbbells are especially important in the workouts of wrestlers, bodybuilders, sports players and any one else who is trying to increase their strength. It is also possible for one to increase muscle size by the use of weight lifting equipment.
Although weight lifting equipment can be expensive, it is possible to shop around for bargains. However, you must remember that once you have bought weight lifting equipment, you will continue to use it for years. Once you have a basic collection, you will only continue to add to it with more weight lifting equipment.
Many gyms have a wide selection of weight lifting equipment. However, the selection will differ between the different gyms. The weight lifting equipment is usually found in one part of the gym, away from the swimming pool and studios. Gyms will also have trainers, who will be able to offer you the best advise on how to use weight lifting equipment without sustaining any injuries.
